Okay, maybe you have a 10-mile commute (one way!) and this seems out of the question. But why not walk around the block one morning a week before you get in your car and drive to work? Notice your breathing and postpone the urgency you feel with the distractions of the morning around you. If that makes you too nervous, take a 5-minute walk after you park and before you enter your building. Better yet, do both! Sure it takes a bit more planning and commitment to keep the first appointment on your calendar open, but think of this as an investment in your performance that pays back with higher productivity all day. Take a break from the mad rush of getting to work and plan an extra 5-10 minutes into your morning routine, and you’re sure to see great results.
